Can I… make a comic strip?

So, I was bored the other day, twiddling my thumbs and wondering what to do; when I had an idea. I decided that I wanted to make my own online comic strip. I managed to come up with a couple characters that I wanted to appear in my comic strip, next I needed some tools to help create and publish my idea.

Strip Generator

After searching through numerous results from Google, I found just what I was looking for, StripGenerator.com; a blog for comic strips. It had all the tools I needed to accomplish my goal, text-editing, pre-made customizable characters, a simple but complete toolbox as well as exposure to a huge community of members.

The adventures of h.E.n.R.i

After I signed up for a membership, I got to work on putting my strip together, which took me about 30 minutes to create. The strip is called “The adventures of h.E.n.R.i'’; and it’s about a robot, a nerdy scientist and a turtle.

Can I… hack my cell?

When I first got my most recent cell phone, I was pretty excited. It had a QWERTY keyboard, Bluetooth, a camera and it was Java-enabled. After playing around with it for a while I found out that my provider had crippled my phone, so that I cannot download anything other then what they have already approved. I found this very annoying as they are essentially limiting my freedom to download whatever I wanted to my phone. There had to be another way.

Howard Forums and Mobile-Files

After some digging, Google had presented me with two mobile phone resources that proved to be invaluable; “Howard Forums” and “Mobile-Files”. Both sites contain a plethora of information and computer software for virtually every mobile phone on the market today. There is a huge community of people out there who are willing to take the time to listen to you and point you in the right direction.

BitPim (Free)

Out of all the mobile data management software that I learned about, (CDMA WorkShop, QSPT, UniCDMA, etc…) there was one that seemed to stand above the rest; a very popular and versatile application known as BitPim. It’s open-source which means “Free” for you and I, and that’s a price I can live with. This application allows to add files such as pictures, music, ringtones and programs. Bitpim will also allow you to back-up your phone data such as contacts, text messages and schedules; “here” is the manual. When you take into consideration that cellular providers charge you for most of the services that BitPim does for free, you know that it’s worth the learning experience.

GetJar

What’s the sense in hacking into your phone if you don’t have any cool software to put on it? That’s where GetJar comes in. This is the largest database of mobile software on internet. GetJar has software for every platform (Symbian, Java, BlackBerry, etc…), and every resolution. You wil not be disappointed.

So, “Can I… hack my cell?”; I can now. If you want “IN” to “YOUR” phone, now you can take control. I hope you all enjoyed this post, thanks for reading.  :)

Can I... back-up my brain?

Not too long ago, I was going through a bunch of papers looking for something important that I had written down; and for the life of me I couldn't find it. I furrowed my brow in sheer frustration, and it was at that point I realized that something had to be done. It was time for action; so I went on the hunt with my old friend Google.

Evernote for my desktop
(Free)
After getting knee deep in search results, I stumbled across something that now I cannot live without. It was exactly what I was looking for; an application that remembered everything for me, and synchronized the information with an external server so I could access it from any internet-capable
device. It is called Evernote, and
it does what it says; it lets one
"Remember Everything". There are two versions of Evernote: "Free" and "Premium". The free version displays a small little ad in the bottom left corner; hardly an annoyance. The premium version is $45 annually and gives you more account space and lets you upload more file types. The official list of differences can be found "here". I opted for the free version because I'm poor, and found that it was more that adequate enough for my needs. Evernote can be downloaded "here".

Evernote for my browser
(Free)
I love Firefox; its extensibility is unrivaled. So once I had Evernote installed to my desktop,
I immediately checked the "Add-ons for Firefox" website for an Evernote extension. It didn't take long to find one. The "Evernote Web Clipper" adds a little button to you Firefox toolbar; all you have to do is highlight some web content, click the button and that information is immediately added to Evernote. The "Evernote Web Clipper" Firefox extension can be downloaded "here".

So, "Can I... back-up my brain?". Yes I can, thanks to Evernote. If you don't have a photographic memory, then this application may be what you need. Take care and thanks for reading my blog. :)

Can I... blog?

It seems like everybody has a blog these days, and not wanting to feel left out, I set out to make a blog that was worth the effort. I had experimented with blogs in the past but never really made a full go at it. I decided it was time to make a change; to do something different. However, before I could get down to business I needed to pull together some resources; Google was my
friend.

After sifting through a bunch of search results on effective blogging, I knew what I needed. I already had my idea (which is unfolding as I write this), and ultimately ended up with a productive and practical set of tools that help me blog better. So all I had to do now was take the time to put it all together and make it work; and hopefully my tree will bare fruit.

Blog Hosting Service
(Free)

There are a lot of good free blog hosting services out there, but I had to choose one, and I went with blogger.com. This service has a very intuitive, easy-to-use interface which I can access from my Google account. It's very full featured and also very free.

Desktop Blog Editor
(Free)

I really wanted the ability to blog from my desktop, and after comparing various applications, I decided Windows Live Writer is the way to go for me. It is easy to setup, feature-rich and flexible. It works with many different blogging services and is part of the Windows Live Essentials suite.

Browser Blog Editor
(Free)

Okay, so I'm very partial to Mozilla Firefox; it has
great extensibility. So if I'm ever on a slow machine, or on a different platform; then I still have to be able to blog effectively despite the obstacles. This is where ScribeFire comes in. It's a very usable, lightweight blog editor that's built right into Firefox. It's cross-platform and the F8 key turns it on/off. It's that simple.

Image Editor

(Free)

If I plan on posting pictures to my blog, then I'm going
to need a decent image editor. The one that I used for this post is Paint.net. It's kind of like an elegant cross between MSPaint and Adobe Photoshop. This plugin extensible application makes simple photo-editing a snap!

So, the answer my question "Can I... Blog?" is: Yes, I can blog!
If one of you decides to try this, you may find different resources that work better for you, but this is what works for me. I hope you all enjoyed this post. Thank-you all for your time.
